Wife of the Governor of Lagos State and Chairman of the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO), Bolanle Ambode, has officially handed over to the wife of the Governor-elect, Dr. (Mrs.) Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, urging her to take the Committee to higher heights.

At a brief handing-over ceremony in Lagos House, Alausa, Ikeja, Mrs. Ambode lauded the vision of the founding mothers of the Committee, which is to compliment the efforts of government, in critical areas that are women and children- friendly.

She reflected that the Committee under successive chairmen, had continued to walk in that great vision, leading to remarkable improvement in the lives of women, girls and children, in vital areas of health, empowerment, education and others.

She recalled some of the achievements recorded under her chairmanship in the last four years.

“My lovely women, with all sense of modesty, we happily recall some of our collective achievements in the health sector of the state, by way of interventions in maternal and child health, year after year.

“The various phases of intervention led to the sponsorship of goiter surgery for 30 women, free hearing aids for 15 children, 3 women and 2 men; as well as the upgrading of the ENT Department of the General Hospital, Odan, Lagos. We also purchased and installed state-of-the-art audiology equipment, including Otoread OAE capable of detecting hearing defects in newborns”.

Still on COWLSO’s achievements under  her leadership, wife of the governor  said ‘Other phases of intervention saw the procurement and donation of two Transport Incubator Ambulance to Gbagada General Hospital and Island Maternity Hospital, coupled with the donation of 32 neo-natal incubators to 13 General Hospitals and 6 fully fitted Birthing Suites for Amuwo-Odofin Maternal and Child Centre, Epe General Hospital and Island Maternity Hospital, Lagos, among others’.

She copiously thanked members of the committee for their robust support for herself and the Ambode Administration over the past four years, while also appreciating her predecessors for their kind advice and words of wisdom.

Responding, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, commended Mrs Ambode  for taking COWLSO to its current enviable height, promising that she would not deviate from the founding ideals of the committee.

Mrs. Sanwo-Olu, who also lauded Governor Ambode for his generous attention to the committee, noted that governance was a continuum, adding that the in-coming administration would work hard enough, to move the state to the next level.

A major highlight of the event, was the presentation of charity grants to twenty nine  orphanage homes and those for the less privileged.

WE HAVE NOT PERMITTED ANY TRUCK TO PARK UNDER MARINE BRIDGE, APAPA, IJORA - LASG

The Lagos State Government on Thursday denounced purported claims by some highly placed politicians, owners and drivers of articulated vehicles that the State has permitted them to park under the Marine Bridge, Ijora and other adjoining areas in Apapa.

In a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Mr Tunji Bello, the State said it had not created any temporary park under the Marine Bridge, anywhere in Apapa and Ijora to accomodate articulated trucks, saying any truck found in the prohibited areas forthwith should be towed away.

He stated that the State is fully in support of the directives given  by  President Buhari to clear all the trucks illegally parked in Apapa and will do everything possible to ensure its effectiveness.

"The State Government has not given any approval or permit to any politician, individuals, owners, no matter how highly placed or corporate bodies to park articulated vehicles under the Marine Bridge, Ijora, other bridges or the major roads and set backs in Apapa", he maintained.

He added that the State Government has given the go- ahead to all security agencies to be deployed for the clearing exercise not to spare any illegally parked trucks in Apapa or its environs immediately the exercise commences.

Bello reiterated the commitment of the State Government  to ensure the re-beautification and landscaping of all the set backs and parks presently illegally occupied by the trucks.

He recalled that six years ago, the  set backs under the Marine Bridge were beautified by the State Government but were degraded by the activities of truck drivers and owners who have defied all appeals.

He assured residents of the State and Apapa in particular that the inconveniences presently being experienced as a result  of the unwholesome activities of the trucks will soon come to a permanent end.
